Cosmetic Surgery Prices
Cosmetic surgery has really gotten popular in recent years. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), over 10 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in 2008. It is important to feel good about your appearance and body, and many people are pleased with the results and find them to be beneficial. However, it can be very expensive and cosmetic procedures are generally not covered by most health insurance policies. Cosmetic surgery prices vary a lot depending on what type of cosmetic surgery is done, where the procedure is done, what the individual surgeon’s prices are, and the patient’s individual circumstances including their health, weight, age and other factors.
In 2008, the most common cosmetic surgeries undertaken were breast augmentation, liposuction, cosmetic eye surgery, nose jobs (rhinoplasty), and tummy tucks (abdominoplasty). The average cost for these procedures were: breast augmentation $3,603 for saline implants and $3885 for silicone gel implants. For liposuction the average cost was $2,933 for ultra sound liposuction and $2,874 for suction-assisted liposuction. For cosmetic eyelid surgery the average cost was $2,921, for nose jobs (or rhinoplasty) $4,369 and for tummy tucks $5,470.
These average cosmetic surgery prices provided by the ASAPS only cover the cost of the surgeon’s fee and not for anesthesia, operating room and hospital fees, after care costs, or any other associated costs. These costs can add several thousand dollars to the total cost. In addition, some procedures, like liposuction, may require more than one procedure to get the desired results.
Because the cost of cosmetic surgery can vary so much, it is very important that you do plenty of research and understand all the costs involved for the particular procedure you want to have performed, along with the benefits, risks and learning what you can expect in terms of the process and end result. The best way to do this is to set up an initial consultation with a cosmetic surgeon and go over your individual situation and the procedure thoroughly so that you understand the total cost.
Due to the fact that cosmetic surgery prices are high, there are usually different financing options that are available to help make payments more manageable for you. You can also discuss this with your surgeon. Also, be be prepared to pay for at least part of your surgery upfront. Be sure to research several cosmetic surgeons as well to make sure that the one you choose is qualified, experienced and has a good reputation among past patients.
